Wayfinding with sustainable materials

Client: NCC Property Development

A unique, sustainable identity with playful elements gave the office environment a welcoming ambience

Among other things, K12 Herrjärva, the office complex that NCC recently erected in Solna, houses their new headquarters. The buildings bear the environmental “BREEAM Excellent” certification, which imposes strict requirements on sustainability throughout all project phases – even when it comes to the construction materials of signage. In collaboration with BAU, FocusNeo was contracted to analyse and fine-tune the existing signage programme as well as manufacture and install all the property signs for the development. The requirements called for cost-effective, low-maintenance solutions that helped the buildings to maintain their BREEAM certification. We fashioned distinct identities for each building and transformed the existing signage programme into a finished design concept that both simplifies navigation and enhances the visitor experience. A digital directory with real-time updates was introduced to assist visitors and tenants. Together with the design firm, FocusNeo was tasked with formulating a wayfinding plan and signage programme to enhance the visual identity using signs made from sustainable materials. The majority of the signs are made of wood and decorative PVC-free graphics. The wayfinding solutions contribute to a visual impression that compliments the property’s sustainability objectives. The product specifications helped the property qualify for “BREEAM Excellent” environmental certification.
