Inclusive wayfinding ensures accessibility for everyone

Client: Sollentuna Municipality

This is how we created an inclusive environment with the help of clear signage and tactile indicators

Gärdesskolan is a public school in Sollentuna with room for 640 pupils from grades K-9. In Autumn 2020, the school was re-opened following a comprehensive renovation. FocusNeo was commissioned to improve accessibility for blind and visually impaired people at the school. The challenge was to convert blueprints to finished signage programmes, taking into account everything from placement to product characteristics, in order to adapt the tactile solutions to the buildings and the target audience. Requirements for approved accessibility inspections We created a wayfinding plan for tactile signs and tactile floor guides containing both information and warning fields. In addition, we designed adaptive contrast marking for glass panels to enhance their safety and improve visibility. Due to the safe and effective wayfinding, with a modern, aesthetically pleasing look befitting the academic environment, Gärdesskolan passed the accessibility inspection with flying colours.
